1. I work with multiple agencies and clients — can you handle that?

Yes. We track income by agency or source so you can clearly see who paid you, when, and how much — even if payments come in batches or late.

2. My income changes every month. Is that a problem?

No. Interpreting income is often irregular, and that’s expected. Your books are updated based on what actually comes in, not estimates or fixed assumptions.

3. I get paid weeks after an assignment. How is that handled?

Payments are recorded when they’re received. If you track outstanding invoices separately for your own reference, we can still keep your books accurate and clean.

4. Most of my income is 1099. Do you track that?

Yes. We track 1099 income throughout the year so you’re not scrambling at tax time trying to reconstruct totals.

5. I’m behind on my bookkeeping. Can I still start?

Yes. Cleanup is common. We’ll review how many months you’re behind, get things current, and then move you into ongoing monthly bookkeeping.

6. How much of my time will this take each month?

Very little. Most clients spend a few minutes per month uploading documents or answering the occasional question. We handle the rest.

7. Do I need to understand bookkeeping or accounting?

No. You don’t need to learn bookkeeping. You’ll receive clear reports, and we’ll explain anything you want to understand in plain language.

8. Will this work with my current tax preparer?

Yes. We provide organized records and reports your tax preparer can use directly. We don’t replace them — we make their job easier.

9. What if I stop interpreting for a while or take fewer assignments?

That’s fine. Your bookkeeping reflects actual activity. There’s no requirement for steady income or minimum volume.

10. What happens if my situation gets more complicated later?

If your needs change significantly, we’ll talk about it honestly. If something falls outside our scope, we’ll tell you upfront rather than letting things drift.

11. Do I need to change how I invoice agencies or get paid to work with you?

No. You keep invoicing and getting paid exactly the way you do now. We work with whatever system you already use and organize the records behind the scenes.

12. I have mileage, CEUs, and out-of-pocket expenses — will those be tracked properly?

Yes. Common interpreter expenses such as mileage, continuing education, supplies, and business-related costs are categorized so you can see your true net income more clearly.

13. Will this actually make tax time easier for me?

Yes. Instead of scrambling through bank statements or spreadsheets, your tax preparer receives clean reports that are easier to review and use, which typically reduces follow-up questions.

14. How do I share documents or information with you without relying on email?

You’ll have a simple, secure way to upload documents and communicate, so nothing gets lost in long email threads or scattered messages.

15. What happens if I decide this isn’t a good fit later?

There is no long-term contract. If you stop, you keep your records and reports, and there are no penalties or complications.

16. How is this different from hiring a general bookkeeper online?

Many general bookkeepers aren’t familiar with interpreter income patterns, agency payments, or common expenses. This service is structured around how ASL interpreters actually work.

17. Why do some ASL interpreters stop using bookkeeping services?

Most stop because the service is too expensive, too complicated, or requires constant back-and-forth. This service is designed to stay simple, affordable, and low-touch.

18. What bookkeeping software do you use?

We typically use low-cost or free bookkeeping tools when possible (such as Wave or Zoho Books) to keep your monthly price low, while still producing clean, professional reports.

19. Do I need to buy QuickBooks Online?Title or Question

Not always. If you want your own QuickBooks access and plan to use it personally, then yes—you would purchase your QuickBooks subscription. If you prefer to keep things simple and affordable, we can often manage your books using a lower-cost system and deliver the reports you need.

20. Who pays for the software?

It depends on the setup. If the accounting software is in your name (like QuickBooks), you pay for it. If we use a lower-cost or free system on our side, there may be no additional software cost to you.

21. How does the access process work — who gives access to whom?

You give us secure access to your bank/credit card statements or transaction feeds (and any bookkeeping platform you already use). We do not take control of your bank account. If we set you up in a platform, we’ll give you your own login and keep you as the account owner whenever possible.

22. Will you need my bank username and password?

No. We do not ask for your bank login credentials. We use secure connection methods, read-only access when available, or statements/exports if you prefer.

23. If you use Wave or Zoho Books, can I still get reports my tax preparer will accept?

Yes. Your tax preparer mainly needs clean, consistent reporting (like a profit & loss, categories, and year-end summaries). The tool matters less than the accuracy and organization.

24. Why is your monthly price lower than most bookkeeping services?

Three reasons: (1) we keep software costs low by using free or low-cost tools when appropriate, (2) we specialize in ASL interpreter bookkeeping so the workflows are faster and more efficient, and (3) we intentionally keep pricing affordable because many ASL interpreters aren’t full-time year-round and we want this to be accessible—not a burden.

25. Do you serve other industries or businesses?

No. ASLBookkeeping.com focuses exclusively on independent ASL interpreters. This allows us to keep our processes simple, efficient, and affordable by working with one clear type of income and expense structure.
